the pure land

In response to Colin McCahon’s 1965 painting ‘As there is a constant flow of light…’ taken from the writings of a twelfth-century Japanese Buddhist monk, Shinran, who was the founder of a tradition known as Pure Land Buddhism. The painting reads ‘as there is a constant flow of light we are born into the PURE LAND’.

Photographed upon the rising of the sun, using light as fugitive element. Texture and tranquility create a soft atmosphere to imagine the transcending into pure spiritual serenity.
